The Holy Spirit
We Believe
a. That the Holy Spirit is a divine person, equal with God the Father and God the Son and of the same nature, (Jn 14:16, 17; Mt 28:19; Heb 9:14; Jn 14:26; Acts 5:20-32)
b. That He was active in the creation, (Gen 1:1-3)
c. That in His relation to the unbelieving world, He restrains the evil one until God’s purpose is fulfilled, (II Thess 2:6-7)
d. That He convicts of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment, (Jn 16:7-11)
e. That He bears witness to the truth of the gospel in preaching and testimony, (Heb 10:15-16)
f. That He is the Agent in the new birth, (Jn 3:5-6; Mk 1:8; Acts 11:16)
g. That He seals, empowers, guides, teaches, witnesses, sanctifies, indwells, and helps the believer, (Eph 1:13-14; Lk 24:49; Rom 8:14, 16, 26-27)
h. We believe that the Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts to every believer to be used for the edification of the local church. However, we believe that the sign and revelatory gifts of the Holy Spirit (such as speaking in tongues, apostolic healing, and new revelation from God) have fulfilled their purpose and are not applicable to the work of the Holy Spirit today. (I Cor 12:6-10, 28-30; 13:8-10; II Cor 12:12; Heb 2:1-4; Rom 12:3-8; Eph 4:11-12; I Pet 4:10-11)
